Book Review – Before I Go To Sleep, SJ Watson

Before I Go to Sleep is a thriller set in three main parts. The first part is establishing that Christine is a 40 year old woman who has amnesia, caused by a car crash, which occurs every time she goes to sleep. Waking up thinking she is in her twenties, Christine’s soon learns of a diary she writes everyday to herself, soon the diary proves that the people she thought she could trust in her life may not be trustworthy at all. The second part concentrates and Christine finding out information which contradicts things she has previously written in her diary and also the things her supposed loved ones have said.  The third part concludes an explosive end where questions are answered and shocking revelations are made.                                                       I would give this book a 4/5 overall the book was excellent and the layout of the book (Being in three parts) created a lot of tension and anticipating the more you read into the book. The reason I wouldn't give the book 5/5 is because there are parts of the book that become tedious and caused me to lose interest, also the quality of writing in the book is not exceptional compared to other books, however its hard to notice that due to the fast paced plot and sudden clues                                                                                                                                                                                                    The book was very gripping as each chapter revealed something new about the main characters. The start of the book is extremely engaging when the reader is, along with the main character Christine, discovering who she is and about what has happened in her life. The second chapter of the book kept me completely engaged as it revealed more clues that something was not right about what Christine has learnt and also revealed a massive surprise. The third part however was the most compelling as it revealed huge secrets and included a lot of fast paced scenes which were terrifying but captivating to read. This book was extremely engaging for me to read and was so fascinating I finished it in two days.                                                                                                                                                                      The book would have an age range from around 15 up wards, it is a terrifying, gripping and an addictive book, which is easy to understand and read. This book may be more suited to older ages (30-60 years) however it is an easy read for all and the story line of the book can apply to all ages as well.
